10/14/2014 - ABIA Consolidated Rental Car Facility Project Update: October 2014 (Newsletter)
The project team at the ABIA Consolidated Rental Car Facility continues to make steady design and construction progress. The project remains within budget and on track to be delivered the fall of 2015.
Noteworthy progress was made on project design and permitting in September. The walkway permit was submitted and Tenant Improvement permit applications anticipated in October. TI coordination meetings to review the pricing, needs, and concerns of each rental car company were held in September and TI pricing will be finalized in October. Civil engineering subcontractor MWM Design Group participated in a punch list walk of the completed reverse shuttle work with the Airport to initiate the approval and turn over process.
The project’s construction subcontractors continue to forge ahead as well. To date, over 61,990 cubic yards of concrete material, 4,820 tons of reinforcing steel and over 516 tons of post tensioning tendons have been installed on-site. 100% of the columns northeast of the ready/return on level 1 have be formed and stripped in preparation for the formwork up to level 2. The area to the southeast of the ready/return has topped out and formwork shoring and re-shoring at all levels is starting to be removed.
The majority of the pipes and hangers in the Customer Service Building (CSB) have been installed by the project’s fire protection subcontractor, Northstar, and they continue to hang hangers and pipe throughout the quick turn-around area (QTA). Derr and Isbell Construction, the project architectural precast erector has completed the majority of the precast erection on the southern façade of the area southeast of the ready/return. Derr is continuing to work through the final welding of all panels. Erection of the bump-out panels southwest of the ready/return is also complete.
Chasco has completed the striping and signage for the exterior reverse shuttle scope and is currently resolving a few punchlist items before ABIA starts the reverse shuttle reconfiguration operation. Chasco will complete the forming and pouring of inverted tee beams by the end of October and will begin the installation of the precast, pre-stressed concrete girders by the beginning of November.
The fueling subcontractor, Unified Services of Texas (UST), has continued installing fuel piping as well as transition sumps. The fuel tanks have been installed and set in place within the service yard. Hagler and Kerr, painting subcontractor, has installed the epoxy coating of the reverse osmosis tank rooms for the car wash systems and has continued painting the underside of the structure in the ready/return and QTA.
